CELLULITE BREAKTHROUGH: MERIDIAN LAPEX BCS Pro®, NON-INVASIVE, LOWER-LASER LIGHT BODY-CONTOURING SYSTEM, MAKES SOUTH AFRICAN DEBUT
Cape Town 29 June 2009. Got cellulitis? Got saddle-bags and love-handles? Tired of inconsistent and variable results in salons? Orange-peel changes to the back of the thighs? Tired of no-result after ultrasound, RF and roller-device therapy? Frustrated with poor advice? Want to make a change? Tired of going back and back to salons for repeated therapy and showing negligible results. Do not want surgical liposuction? There is a new option for you. More cost effective, no down-time, less time spent in salons. Low-level laser lipoplasty now supersedes previous cellulite-reducing devices in efficacy, including rollers and ultrasound. But 5-10 treatments are still needed but at a cost inclusive of R2000 at preferred providers. Only 20-minutes a treatment session. So, time effective. And the new light technology can treat legs, arms, baby bulges, back-fat, double chins and fat stomachs. Upgrade to FDA approved lower laser-light assisted lipoplasty, a fairly well established LOWER-LEVEL LASER treatment for unwanted cellulite in the UK and other countries. Safety profile is good. Look around in Cape Town for a salon offering this service, before jumping into liposuction. A very good initial step and consideration before surgical liposuction and a lot cheaper. And one can feel the fat changes as early as 3 weeks after starting treatment. For more details refer to LIPO EVOLUTION®, at www.laselight.com or www.prlog.org or www.pressbox.co.uk or www.laserliposa.c0.za . Features of cellulite treatment by lipo-laser or lower-level, non-ultrasonic, laser treatment are summarised as follows:
- Non-invasive cellulite sculpturing and lipoplasty by lower-laser application
- FDA approved, body contouring technology, cellulite treatment and skin tightening
- Application of laser-assisted anti-cellulite technologies: cold red laser device, based on diode-technology and therefore must be used in healthcare-accredited premises.
- Laser-assisted cellulite reshaping breakthrough: lipolaser technology by the use of the Meridian Lapex BCS Pro device ( body contouring system)
- Measurable centimetre loss, superior to similar devices
- Safe and painless: no surgery and less than 30 minute treatment session
- Laser-directed spot-fat reduction and body-contouring or fat-reshaping by low-level laser modulation
- Non-ultrasonic laser-assisted lipoplasty
- Suitable for stomach, cellulite, post-birth bulge, chin, love-handles, back, bottom-lift, love-handles, and saddle –bags
- Utilizes four mobile low-level laser diode probes (630-680 nm), that facilitate modulation of targeted fat to achieve body-contouring without pain. Skin application time is about 10-minutes per session. The manufacturer propose the following mechanism of action and how it works: “the light penetrates the skin painlessly, penetrates several millilitres into the subcutaneous adipose-tissue (fat) and stimulates disruption of the fat-cell wall temporarily and allows the cell contents to spill out. The fat (in the form of triglycerides) is converted to free-fatty acids, glycerol and water and these products harmlessly undergo their normal metabolic processing”. See www.preferredmedicaltechnology.com . “Shortly after a treatment, the fat-cells regain their normal shape but are significantly reduced in size resulting in substantial body-contour improvements”.
- 8-10 treatments are recommended, after initial consultation to assess suitability for the use of the Lapex device. Each session is divided into three phases, each of about 10 minutes, during which time the probes are moved to cover a larger surface of adipose tissue. Following treatment, as after all cellulite options, clients are recommended to do cardiovascular exercises to burn released fats (www.prlog.org). A sensible diet should be followed. Clinical efficacy of the Lipolaser has been demonstrated by researchers at Louisiana State University.
- Cost per treatment can be as low as R200, and total of R2000 ( 10 treatments).

PROOF OF SCIENCE: ROBUST SCIENCE
The biostimulation, modulatory and skin rejuvenation effects of LED are well established and the reader is referred to references 3-7, for comprehensive information. Recommended reading is the work of Dr Glen Calderhead, from Photherapeutics in Japan (ref 6). The Meridian Lapex is a third generation model and the latest upgrade on former models. See Laserlipo at www.laserliposa.co.za . Laserlipo was marketed to result in liquefaction of fats with the drainage thereafter through the lymphatic system.

INBODY 720: PRECISION BODY COMPOSITION ANALYZER: VALUBLE ASSESSMENT BEFORE AND DURING TREATMENT OF CELLULITE.
Many older patients undergoing cellulite treatment need body composition analysis, apart from a clinical examination and lipogrambecause of the underlying, potential and latent dangers of obesity. The value in geriatric medicine cannot be overstated. INBODY® can provide the following information:
- Body composition analysis ( ICW, ECW, protein, mineral body fat mass)
- Muscle-fat analysis, BMI, soft-lean mass
- Obesity diagnosis
- Lean balance
- Segmental oedema, oedema
- Visceral fat area
- Nutritional evaluation, body strength, obesity degree
- Body composition history, weight control, fitness score

Figure 3: For BMI and visceral fat determination , the INBODY720 device provides useful information for the clinician allowing dietary-deficiency, overload-correction and monitoring.
All this data is especially useful in the management of adult persons with the metabolic syndrome. To-day, with the explosion in youth obesity and predictable negative cardiovascular outcomes, precision body composition analysis as explained is of critical importance in guiding nutritional correction and other life-style adjustments. Even younger patients undergoing cellulite treatment in salons will benefit from such analysis. For more details see www.e-inbody.com (bioelectrical impedance analysis method).
